Lynn's Book Reviews

Amazing 5-star reviews are coming in for many of Lynn's books. Reviews are very important to an author - if you have read any of her books, it would mean a lot to her if you would leave a short, heart-felt review. For all of these reviews, they mean more than you could know, and she is very grateful - thank you so much!

Here are some of the recent reviews for THE FINGER MURDERS:

5 STARS!  Killer on the loose. Another great novelette from the prolific Lynn Miclea! A police captain is at his wit's end as he uses all resources at his disposal in order to identify and capture a serial killer on the loose. The story follows his investigation with a few brief glimpses from the killer's point-of-view. It's a nail-biter all the way to the shocking finale.

***

5 STARS!  I felt so connected with Captain Craig Morgan in his frustration while chasing a prolific serial killer. The details never change and the victims are similar. This is a quick, intriguing read and I suggest it to everyone who needs a thrill.

***

4 STARS!  Quick good read. When a serial killer is on the loose the police turn over every available leaf to try and solve the stream of murders before another can be committed. With little to go on, a shred of clues come to light, baffling the department as to how they would tie in. It has been said that oft we are too close to situations to see them clearly. The same can be said for this unexpected conclusion. I have read and reviewed other books by this author and have enjoyed all of the different styles. To The Author - You cross genres effortlessly. Your arsenal of short stories is commendable.

Here are some of the recent reviews for TRANSMUTATION:

5 STARS!  Alien Invasion. I have to say I am a huge fan of this writer. She had me suckered in from the first few pages and I flew through the story and finished it in no time at all. As a crew member on a space travel directive to another planet Erica is invaded by a highly contagious alien infection which spreads rampantly by touch upon her return to Earth. While not dangerous, the altering of everyone's DNA causes a rift between the enhanced ability members of society and those immune to it reacting out of fear. It differs from the average alien experience in the altering of DNA that instead of hampering human existence it brings only positive changes in the humane treatment of others and instilling peace throughout the planet. Imagine a world where everyone is kind, where you have the ability to heal yourself and where teleporting and thought transference abound. Does not sound half bad does it? The writer really brings the "What If" factor home on a grand scale. To The Author – This book has become my new favorite by you.

***

5 STARS!  Alien invasion stories have been around for over a hundred years, and most of the time they involve physical spaceships carrying alien beings to earth, intent on overtaking or destroying our world. But what if that invasion comes courtesy of a female astronaut who makes contact on another planet and becomes an unknown host for alien powers that are carried back to earth and easily spread throughout the earth's population? This would be terrifying, but in Transmutation, we discover that aliens might just have what we really need in order for us to survive our own fragile and hostile times. Would we willingly submit to these changes, or try and fight them off and remain on our own path of evolution? Transmutation ponders these questions and many more in an excellent sequel to New Contact, another fascinating and entertaining book from Lynn Miclea. I really enjoyed these characters and found myself empathizing with the characters, struggling with whether or not to share their knowledge of such an invasion or allow it to play out and change our world for the better. A very enjoyable and thought-provoking book.

***

5 STARS!
Sci-fi Alien Invasion. What an unusual outlook on life on other planets and alien takeover. An alien presence hitched a ride back to earth inside Erica. Except for very few people, everyone's DNA is mutating. They are getting enhanced abilities but at what cost? This story ends leaving us to form our own ending to questions. Will earth's people lose their humanity? Is this a subtle invasion to take over other planets? Each of us drawing our own conclusion. Enjoy this book as I have.

***

5 STARS!  An interesting view of humanity. This is an interesting and thought-provoking exploration of what it means to be human. Lynn offers an ultimately optimistic and uplifting view of the world and the universe, which feels really good in our current times.

Here are some of the recent reviews for NEW CONTACT:

5 STARS!  A Perfect World...Or Is It? As a long-time fan of science fiction, I really enjoyed First Contact, mainly for its highly imaginative and detailed description of a unique and beautiful, utopic world. The author does a great job of describing the reactions of an expedition from Earth as they are given a personalized tour of this fascinating planet and its wondrous and creative inhabitants. However, despite all of its beauty, the expedition learns the hard way what happens when you violate the rules of the planet. I loved the characters and the full-realized alien world and I would recommend this book to anyone who loves good utopian sci-fi.

***

5 STARS!  An interesting read of a clash of cultures. The human team is hosted by the alien race which proclaims itself completely peaceful and harmonious. But there are multiple instances of interactions that could be interpreted as threatening. Is this interpretation based on reality, or is humanity's tendency toward violence and war coloring the events? The author spins a good story that may not reflect well on our species but it does make you want to turn the pages. And there's a nice setup for a sequel. I can't wait!

***

5 STARS!  A fictional tale of far advanced life forms and civilizations. This book does not merely entertain but gives readers multitudes of reasons to reflect on a supreme nonviolent society that is in direct contrast to Earth. It also leaves them with the mind-boggling possibility of what they may have brought back with them. I am not a sci-fi fan but I enjoyed this!

***

5 STARS!  Science fiction that makes a pretty honest point of the fact that we human beings are not ready to meet new beings. Invited to explore a new planet and meet its populace, captain and crew are instructed that there will be no weapons allowed, and acts of aggression will be dealt with. Naturally, the humans perceive so many non-threatening actions by their guests as threats and fail to endear themselves to their hosts when they overreact. Lynn Miclea has found a unique way to show her readers the errors of our ways.

Here are some of the recent reviews for JOURNEY INTO LOVE:

5 STARS!  An engaging romance with a touch of mystery! Brianna starts a new job and becomes attracted to Cole who is training her. This engaging story follows them as their romance blossoms. However, a lady from Cole's past threatens to destroy their relationship. I really enjoyed this story and couldn't wait to see what would happen next. I read it straight through.

Here are some of the recent reviews for GHOSTLY LOVE:

5 STARS!  This will keep your attention! Try to imagine a ghost attempting to get a live girl to stay with him forever - she of course is not quite willing to do this. Luckily she has a male friend who knows how to convince the ghost to follow the light and not them!! There is a happy ending as the two live people go walking - and the ghost finds peace!! But what it took to get there!! You have to read it to believe it!!

***

5 STARS!  A love story, a ghost story, and a page turner. People who like ghost stories will enjoy this novella.

***

5 STARS!  Ghostly Love, by Lynn Miclea, is a wonderful paranormal love story. Stephanie has a scary problem in her home office. A ghost named Scott lives in that room, and to top it all, has fallen in love with her. Stephanie, on the other hand, is attracted to Brandon, a sweet guy who works at the neighborhood coffee shop, which further angers the ghost and makes him violent. The author does an excellent job of creating the creepy feeling that a ghost might bring in the lives of us living beings. The characters were portrayed in a realistic fashion and I absolutely enjoyed the flow of the story. I could not find many typos or grammatical errors which shows that the book has been professionally edited. I would rate this book a five star for presentation and concept. If you like to read spooky stories, this will make for a bit scary but breezy read.

***

4 STARS!  In this tale you will encounter a possessive ghost with computer skills and unafraid to throw temper tantrums if he has to. A quick but very good read as romance blossoms while trying to deflect the entity who has taken up residence. Sweet, light and well done. (To The Author - You have fantastic abilities to move between genres.)

Here are some of the recent reviews for GUARD DUTY:

5 STARS!  A real page turner. When I downloaded it, I had a peak and read the first page, in spite of being in the middle of another book. And I read only one book at a time. I just couldn't stop reading. Well written short story. I recommend it to everyone.

***

5 STARS!  This is a short read that packs a punch. Andrea and Jason have just begun a relationship, they are also on duty working in the cadaver lab. Not a job I would take. Something strange is going on. To find out what, readers should grab this book from a prolific author.

***

5 STARS!  If you're looking for a nice, short read that will really give you the heebie-jeebies, this is a great choice. In my opinion, there is nothing creepier than a morgue. For those looking for a good mystery, this tale of two young lovers dealing with things that go bump in the night will surely fit the bill. My only complaint is that it could've been longer, but as a short story, it's perfect.

***

4 STARS!  This lightning fast tale packs all the punches necessary to bring it together. Mystery, sweet budding romance, a creepy morgue and one strange encounter. It could have been longer but somehow that would have detracted from its essence. This is the second short story I have read by this author. I enjoyed it as much as the first. (To The Author - You know how to cover all the bases even at a rapid pace.)

Here are some of the recent reviews for LOVING GUIDANCE:

5 STARS!  The many dimensions of love. I have enjoyed many of Lynn's books in the past, but I think this one might be my favorite. I'm usually not a big fan of romance stories, but the paranormal/spiritual aspect really drew me into this story. Talk about your star-crossed lovers! The main characters are obviously quite sincere in their love for one another and you are really rooting for their romance to succeed. I don't want to give away too much, but I will say the author was very clever with the way she revealed the characters and their complicated relationship. Very highly recommended!

***

5 STARS!  Sweet read! This book was a gift and I loved it! I can see it being a series as at the end... it opened the door to another story. I hated to put the book down and so wished there was more. Ms. Miclea did an excellent job in keeping me in suspense.

***

5 STARS!  This is the fourth book I've read from this author, and I have to say this is my favorite by far. Written to lead the reader into the true language of love not only between lovers but to all mankind. Sweet and endearing with a tearful ending that compels us to believe that the heart does go on. (To The Author - it may have been a quick read but the words linger.)

***

5 STARS!  This wasn't quite what I was expecting from a paranormal romance. No vampires. No witchcraft. This is not a bad thing; it was refreshing to discover something new. A tear jerker. If true love and a twist are your thing you'll love this.

Here are some of the recent reviews for MENDING A HEART:

5 STARS!  If Larry King read your book and was still on CNN with his talk show he would have had you on the show to discuss it and take calls. I am sorry you ever had to go through that heart problem. To go through such a difficult experience and then write about it is amazing. Hopefully I will not have to go through what Lynn went through but if I do I know ahead of time that I would pick a tissue valve. Lynn had such a short time period to make such an important decision and she still made the right choice. Great book.

***

5 STARS!  Lynn Miclea gives us tremendous insight into how a person's entire being is affected, physically, emotionally, and psychologically, by aortic stenosis and by open-heart surgery to fix this condition. She describes in detail the symptoms she experienced and how she tried, really hard, to ignore them, until she just couldn't dismiss them any more. She takes us along with her on her journey through her diagnosis, her open-heart surgery, and her long recovery, detailing her fears and hopes, her pain and her joy. Lynn has a great connection with her audience; I felt I was with her through her entire experience. Aortic stenosis is life-threatening; Lynn has done a great service calling this condition to everyone's attention.

5 STARS!  Powerful, Moving, Courageous!  Powerful and moving, this story takes you right into Lynn’s world, experiencing each moment of the unfolding drama right along with her. She shows amazing courage and shares incredible insights in this book, and her story kept me riveted. Beautifully written, easy to read, and I highly recommend this.

***

5 STARS!  A great play by play. You feel like you're right there with Lynn, going through it all, almost as if it was happening to you. I really enjoyed reading it, and couldn't put it down without finishing it. I highly recommend this book. Especially if you have gone through this type of trauma, or even if you haven't!

***

5 STARS!  I chose a FIVE star rating because this book deserves it! This is my second Lynn Miclea book that I've read and it is just as awesome as the first book of hers that I've read!! I enjoyed reading about Lynn's journey with open-heart surgery and I can't wait to read another one of her books this week!!

Here are some of the recent reviews for PENNY GAINS CONFIDENCE:

5 STARS!  I don’t usually review children’s stories, but being a mom to a four-year-old little girl, Penny Gains Confidence is one to treasure. The message of acceptance and self-love is loud and clear, making it easy for a young child to comprehend. At an age where they are experiencing insecurities and bullying for the first time, Penny Gains Confidence comes at the perfect moment to help shift a young child's perspective and teach them how to process unwarranted criticism. I highly recommend this story and will be purchasing more of Lynn’s books in the future for my daughter and I to read together.

***

5 STARS!  This adorable chapter easy reader about Penny the little bunny is a must read! Geared toward maybe 3rd through 5th grade, the story line is about embracing your own insecurities and weaknesses and turning them into opportunities and challenges as well as celebrating the diversity in others. The lessons of tolerance and inclusion and acceptance are must-haves for every child's bookshelf. It's a book meant to be self-read or easily shared parent to child or read out loud to a non-reader. Very worthwhile purchase.

***

5 STARS!  Love Love Love! This is probably my favorite Lynn Miclea book!! This is a sweet, kind, and gentle book written about seeing past what's on the outside and taking a glimpse at what's on the inside. It is what's on the inside that's important and you never know what someone else is going through, no matter how they look on the outside. I especially enjoyed the character Penny and her sweetness that she showed to her new kitty friend. Even though Penny was sad and upset about being bullied, she didn't let that get in the way of her uplifting spirit. By being kind to the kitty, she gained a friendship that leads her to new beginnings of how she sees herself and others. I highly recommend this book!

5 STARS!  Anytime you can teach a child an important life lesson, you’ve done a wonderful job. And this book succeeds in doing just that. The life lesson, which the author, Lynn Miclea, tries to and succeeds in doing with this book, deals with the acceptance of others for who they are and not what they are. The young readers this book is geared for are influenced every day by what they see; and what they hear, especially from their parents. This is the aim of the storyline for this book, to treat others with compassion and overlook any disparities from the norm they might possess. For wanting to educate her young readers about accepting the differences we might have regarding others, especially any flaws or individualities, I’ve given Ms. Miclea 5 STARS for her efforts.

***

5 STARS!  This is an adorable and educational story, a chapter book with lovely drawings. The topics touched in this beautiful story are many: the role of positive friendships, self-acceptance and self-love, a positive attitude to transform life's obstacles into opportunities of growth, rising above criticism and learning to handle bullies. The book is well written, and gives kids the language tools for expressing how they feel. This is my first book of Lynn Miclea and I was really impressed, I am now very curious to read her others, the ''Sammy'' series and the ''Wish Fish'' series looking for other precious teachings. The fact that the author is an experienced healer is very felt throughout the book. A real treasure for families with children 5-10 years old who are looking for quality books fostering positive and harmonious growth.

***

5 STARS!  A wonderful children's book, Penny Gains Confidence is a story about caring and courage, about accepting our differences and celebrating one another. Lynn Miclea has woven a tale that is as delightful as it is thought-provoking; a story that those reading or listening are sure to enjoy.

Here are some of the recent reviews for WISH FISH 1:

5 STARS!  Author Lynn Miclea has done a marvelous job in writing this metaphoric story about two fish discovering the new world they’ve been born into. Just like children today, Ray and Roxy learn the importance of self-esteem and assisting others in need although they might look different than themselves. The author’s characters and what they have to go through succeeds in subliminally teaching its young readers about overcoming any fears they believe they might have as they discover the big world around them so they can ultimately grow as individuals. Ray and Roxy also learn about the importance of friendship along the way. For wanting to help children grow to adults in an entertaining manner I’ve given this book and its author 5 STARS.

***

5 STARS!  I love Wish Fish! A great story of growing into all you can be - no matter your age!  Wish Fish is a great Chapter book. It is inspiring to both young and old alike. A great teaching tool to believe in oneself and learn to lovingly and cooperatively help others. This would be a great TV show! It is both educational and entertaining. You will cheer for the Wish Fish as they learn they can do much more than they ever thought they could. A great creative, confidence builder for all of us!

***

5 STARS!  Wish Fish is at its heart an exploration of perceived limitations and the ability to break past them to a deeper, richer existence. With love for each other and trust in themselves, Roxy and Ray Fish discover that they can make their dreams come true. Sometimes doubting themselves even in the face of evidence to the contrary (something I strongly identified with), the Wish Fish eventually realize that their belief in themselves can lead to wonderful, life-changing experiences, and a lot of fun besides.

***

5 STARS!  This is a fabulous book, a terrific read. Book 1 out of a two part book series, my kids loved reading both books. It helped to bridge discussions on fears, strengths and weaknesses, and challenges and opportunities. I found it funny and charming, simple and sweet, yet still appropriate for a few older kids as well. Truly a must read set! Great for gifts as well!

***

5 STARS!  Delightful! – Filled with uplifting messages of encouragement and positive thinking, this is a great story for children of all ages. Highly recommended!

5 STARS!  What a sweet story! I work at a school, and have given some of these books to our school library to go with our theme of friendship and inclusion. Our librarian loves it and said it should be a Disney movie or TV series.

Here are some of the recent reviews for WISH FISH 2:

5 STARS!  You can never stop learning!  In this outing author Lynn Miclea takes her two young fish characters, Ray and Roxy, on new adventures fraught with new hard to believe dangers as they learn more about overcoming their imaginary boundaries of what they can and cannot do. They come across an older and wiser fish, a Master Healer, who takes them under his wing so they can learn how to release the inner happiness they possess. Once again the author uses her characters to subliminally teach its young readers that they have unending possibilities they have regarding their lives. This book is about the inspiring revelation of what life can be like if we just allow ourselves to simply be ourselves, it is a book which anyone, adults and children, can benefit from; which is why I’m giving this book 5 STARS.

***

5 STARS!  This is the 2nd book in a two book set. As a companion book, this book completes a journey rooted in finding simple success in facing one’s challenges and fears. Kids are able to openly dialogue about fears and weakness, limitations and challenges, and then on the flip side consider those same things as both opportunities and hope. My children loved this two part set. I actually had a few older kids read it as well. The writing is clean, simple but not dumbed down and the illustrations are perfect for the elementary school age. It’s not an easy reader but rather a chapter book type of series. I read it aloud and had kids read it themselves. I could not recommend it more highly.

***

5 STARS!  They are charming characters who are having great fun living bigger lives than they expected.  Roxy and Ray Fish here continue on their journey of self-exploration. They support each other through their fears and doubts; they help their friends and make new ones; they enlarge their world-view to encompass experiences beyond their imagination (including a teaching session with a Master Healer). They are charming characters who are having great fun living bigger lives than they expected, and it is delightful going on their adventures with them.

Here are some of the recent reviews for SAMMY AND THE FIRE:

5 STARS!  Sammy, a canine hero, faces danger bravely. He teaches safety and caring for others and selflessness in this new easy chapter reading book. The illustrations while simple are effective. Geared towards a slightly older reader maybe 10 to 11 in age it could still be read out loud to a much younger child and be the opening for very important home, school, church and community dialogues about fire safety, first aid, and general care and safety of others. Sammy is a playful and fun character that shares through adventure and mishap and journeys much like life and the daily ebb and flow of life from a youngster's perspective.

***

5 STARS!  What a fun read!  I enjoyed going on this awesome adventure with Sammy the dog! He is a fun character with an inspiring attitude. Sammy saved the day in this tale and this sweet pup is sure to pull your heart strings. I especially enjoyed the part where he sniffed out the peanut butter treats, but resisted them to save his neighbors! True dog like qualities with an extra dose of chivalry!

Here are some of the recent reviews for SAMMY VISITS A HOSPITAL:

5 STARS!  This book gets a five star rating in humor alone! My kids loved the antics of Sammy the canine hero as he visits the hospital. It's one big adventure after another. Somehow a world which is often scary or uncomfortable for children became both common and normal, almost inviting and playful, yet always safe. An easy chapter book reader. It's a good read for kids ages 8 to 10 and a great treat for those who need to read out loud to younger ones. It is particularly helpful if you have medically fragile children or ill family members and are looking to create an opening for a safe dialogue.

5 STARS!  So great!  This Sammy book is so great! I enjoyed reading about Sammy's adventure in the hospital! Especially when he started making new friends and being thought of as a therapy dog. That's what Sammy is all about; helping others. Reading this book to my boys helped them realize that helping others can be fun! And they enjoyed reading about the ice cream! We have dogs that love ice cream as well! I'd recommend this book to anyone wanting to excite their children about helping others!

5 STARS!  A Great Book For Young and Old Alike!  A funny and delightful story told from the point-of-view of a feisty and lovable rescue dog. 5 STARS!
Loved it!  I was so excited to read another Sammy adventure and I was not disappointed, yet again! This is beautiful! I've always loved going to visit my great aunt in the nursing home and this book brought back great memories for me! Bittersweet memories, because my aunt is passed. My favorite part was when Sammy stole the show and danced for everyone! Perfect timing and perfect way to brighten up the sadness that usually fills a nursing home. Sammy truly saved the day again! Such a good dog!

Here are some of the recent reviews for SAMMY FALLS IN LOVE:

5 STARS!  Love it! This is the sweetest story ever! I loved the compassion and love shown throughout this whole story. Especially when Sammy the dog becomes "smitten with a kitten". She may be different, but he loves her anyway. This book teaches kids to love unconditionally and to not look at differences as reasons to not love someone, but as more reasons TO love them. I recommend this book to children and adults of all ages!

5 STARS!  This is another great book by Los Angeles author Lynn Miclea. Great book for kids maybe aged 9 to 11. Sammy is a lovable canine whom the reader connects with on an empathetic and truly honest heartwarming level. Here are some of the recent reviews for SAMMY AND THE EARTHQUAKE:

5 STARS!  Sammy and the Earthquake is another exciting and entertaining entry in the Sammy the Dog series of books that are primarily written to encourage children to be kind and to help others whenever possible. Sammy has several opportunities to be helpful in this story when going for a walk becomes a chance to help victims of an earthquake. Sammy, along with his family, all pitch in to help several neighbors affected by the earthquake. This is a great lesson for children to learn, and also a good reminder of how adults can also step up and help out whenever something bad happens. Children should definitely enjoy the action as well as the humor that Sammy always seems to find on his many adventures. Highly recommended!!

***

5 STARS!  Another lovely children's tale by Lynn Miclea. A chapter book, with lovely drawings, which will keep kids glued to the story. The plot is very intriguing as there is a lot of action and suspense, and at the same time this tale is very inspirational and will make kids love helping everyone in need, beyond race, age, and social background! With this new story, the author is helping parents who want their kids to develop a happy, healthy personality, moving towards kindness and care for their families, peers and community. Sammy the dog runs everywhere after an earthquake to help strangers and friends in need, with big and simple actions, which kids will learn and love to mimic! "Sammy and the Earthquake" is my second book by Lynn Miclea and I loved it as much as the first one. I read "Penny Gains Confidence" (which I really recommend too). I'm really enthusiastic about this book and I really recommend it, both to therapists and parents!

5 STARS!  With this entry in the wonderful Sammy the dog series of children's books, Sammy goes on a beach vacation with his family. In addition to the fun Sammy experiences, he also gets the chance to be a hero on more than one occasion! This is a great story and a marvelous lesson for young children, learning how not to be afraid of doing good things and the rewards that follow. Also, children get to learn how much dogs are capable of loving and appreciating their families. A great read for children and adults alike!

5 STARS!  Sammy becomes quite a hero in this book, one of a series of several. I loved the fact that Sammy is a lovable dog. A very sweet book with lessons on helping others and getting along with those unlike ourselves. Also, being kind to your pets is a lesson every child should learn and Sammy's family took very good care of him. The author did an excellent job of telling the story through a dog's eyes. Truly a child book of good values. I recommend it heartily.

Here are some of the recent reviews for Ruthie:  A Family's Struggle with ALS

What a story! I could not put the book down. Lynn has captured the agony and the tone of the progression of ALS as it affected her mother. She takes us on the family's journey of this dreadful disease including: immense frustrations, denials and acceptances. The story is told with insight and compassion just as it occurred. It is a "must read" for everyone to understand and become aware of the devastation ALS causes and to help promote the study and development of a cure.

***

Unforgettable. I read the entire book in less than 24 hours because I just couldn't put it down. It was describing all the things I'm encountering as I live through the same nightmare with my own parents. It helped me better understand that while those watching it happen can only do so much, the most important thing is being there. Beautifully written, compassionately told story. Thank you Lynn.

***

Lynn has given us a harrowingly honest portrait of a family trying to cope with a devastating disease. She sensitively portrays her father's difficulty accepting his wife's diagnosis, and the pain his denial caused Ruthie and also Lynn herself. She details her confusion and hurt at her mother's refusal to allow her in to her world, even as that world was collapsing. Lynn brings us right along with her as we experience the tumult, the small unexpected moments of joy, and the family's eventual acceptance as the disease progressed. This memoir acts as a valuable guidebook for families confronting the ravages of this debilitating disease, as well as a heartfelt, loving tribute to Lynn's extraordinary mother, Ruthie.

This is a very readable account of the author's mother, and her deterioration from ALS, a horrible degenerative neuromuscular disease. Written from the point of view of a loving adult daughter who tried to do the right thing without forcing treatment decisions on her parents, she details how illness and the surrounding emotions affected her extended family. Not preachy or clinical, I found that I learned so much about this disease as the family learned more along the way. The author also shares tips that she learned from her research and experiences, regarding helping your loved ones keep their dignity, making wishes known, asking for help, using assistive devices, and finding joy in simple activities. I highly recommend this memoir to anyone dealing with chronic illness, caregivers and family members.

This is a story that can become anyone's story. ALS strikes about 5,000 Americans each year and knows no ethnic, gender or race biases. Lynn's story is personal and informative. She documents the strength and hope her mother embodied as well as the family ups and downs in dealing with the disease. It's an easy read with helpful information throughout as she chronicles the progression of this killer disease. If you are researching for information because a family member, friend or yourself has been diagnosed with ALS this is a good first primer to help you understand what's going to happen, what you can do to help, where you can turn and more.

This is the story of a woman with ALS, and how her family coped with it. It details how her daughter tried to help her as best she could, the initial denial of the seriousness of it by her husband and how he later helped keep her alive. It moves fast and I couldn't put the book down. I learned a lot about the varieties of ALS, and how the disease progresses. I recommend this book to anyone struggling to help with the sickness of a family member.

I grew up with the author and knew her family well. This is a tragic story that could happen to any of us. What Lynn conveys so clearly is the confusion about ALS. Not only what the disease is and does, but the reactions of her family members as it impacts their lives.

It details the struggles of her daughter to try to help her. The book taught me much about the disease itself - there are many variants of it. I highly recommend this book!
